SALISBURY - James Paul Barringer Jr., 75, of Salisbury, passed away Monday, Aug. 18, 2014, at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem.

He was born July 30, 1939, in Rowan County, the son of the late Ruby Starnes Barringer and James P. Barringer Sr.

James graduated from Rockwell High School in 1958 and was a veteran of the U.S. Army.

He was a photographer for the Salisbury Post for 40 years and was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church.

Preceding him in death were his mother-in-law, Adelaide Jackson; and sisters-in-law Patti Jackson Burrage and Dottie Barringer.

Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 55 years, Barbara Jackson Barringer, whom he married June 11, 1959; sons James P. Barringer III (Christine) of Salisbury, Jeffrey Barringer (Tammy) of Arkansas, Kelley Barringer (Tammy) of Albemarle and Chris Barringer (Tina) of China Grove; daughter Sharon Smith (Tim) of Salisbury; brother Leon Barringer of Salisbury; sister Jean Jones (Bobby) of Salisbury; grandchildren Garrett, T.J., J.P., Robert, Conner, Madison, Taylor, Katie, Jacob, Chase, Kody, Kandace, Justin and Mallory; and great-grandchildren Mason and Dawson.

Visitation: 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at Haven Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, 207 W. Harrison St., Salisbury, NC 28144.

Graveside Service: 1 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 21 at Salisbury National Cemetery, 501 Statesville Blvd., Salisbury, NC 28144. Military honors by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard.

Memorials: Carolina Artists, Rufty-Holmes Senior Center, Salisbury, NC.
