Hugh William "Willie" Bost, Jr.
Hugh William "Willie" Bost, Jr., 68, of Gold Hill, passed away Wednesday, September 13, 2023.
He was born September 1, 1955, in Rowan County, to the late Hugh William Bost, Sr. and Rena Hammill Bost. Willie was a 1973 graduate of East Rowan High School. He began working at an early age for the family business, Rockwell Radio and Electric, and eventually worked in all aspects of the business. Mr. Bost attended B.L.E.T. at Rowan Tech and spent 44 years serving the Rowan County Sheriff's Department where he retired as Captain over Special Deputies. His service to the county coincided with serving the Town of Rockwell for 21 years as Chief of Police. He enjoyed using his talents with many law enforcement agencies by wiring and setting up their vehicles for service and was passionate about his work with the K-9 Unit. Always active with various organizations, he served as the secretary for the Rowan County Peace Officers Club. His service to the community extended beyond law enforcement with his over 50 years in fire service, 24 of those as Chief of Rockwell City Fire Department. Willie loved his John Deere tractor and watching Tractor Time with Tim on YouTube and NASCAR.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Shirley Ann Hildebrand Bost, and his K-9 partners, Rambo and Zukko.
He is survived by his wife, Sue Kluttz Bost; daughter, Wendy East (Jason) of Apex; son, Eric Bost (Brittany) of Rockwell; grandchildren, Banks and Brennan Bost and Cora and Lilly East; sister, Jody Mease (John) of Mooresville; brother-in-law, Kenneth Kluttz (Joyce); nephew, Darren Kluttz (Shaney); lifelong friend, Terry Jones (Cindy); and several aunts.
The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, September 18, from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home.
The funeral service will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, September 19, at Immanuel Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Bruce Sheeks officiating. Burial will follow at Brookhill Memorial Gardens.
