Notes for Susan Lynn Brown
Susan Lynn Brown Cannon

Susan Lynn Brown Cannon of Faith passed away on Saturday, April 16, at The Pearl of Fort Mill.  Born on July 23, 1948, she was the daughter of the late Van Buren Brown and Lucille Peeler Brown.  Susan was a lifelong member of Shiloh Reformed Church of Faith where she was a youth leader, Sunday school teacher, member of the Pairs and Spares Class, Consistory member, choir member, and Women’s Guild president.  A 1966 graduate of East Rowan High School and a 1969 graduate of Elon College, she spent 35 years educating the children of Rowan County.  The first part of her career was at China Grove Middle School. After earning her master's degree at the University of North Carolina at Greensboro she returned to East Rowan High School.  She was a teacher, coach, and friend to each student she had the pleasure of teaching.  Along with her husband of 52 years, George David Cannon, she was the happiest when she was cruising the high seas.  Together they saw the world!  Even while her memory was fading the word “cruise” would put a smile on her face.  Her friend groups “The Wheelers” and “The Beach Girls” were there when she needed to have a good time and forget her troubles.  A hero to her daughters and grandchildren, Susan cared for everyone around her.  Her caregiving began at an early age as she saw to it that her parents and husband never wanted for anything.

In addition to her parents and husband she is preceded in death by brother Van Lane Brown and son-in-law Bradley Dean Bowling.

Left to cherish her memory are daughter Erin and husband Michael Kelly of Concord along with their children Carson, Parker, and Will, and daughter Ashleigh Bowling of Cary and her children Braeden and Banks.  Together they all say, “I LOVE YOU MORE!”

Services: The family will greet friends and relatives at Shiloh Reformed Church from 3-4 PM on Sunday, April 24 followed by a Celebration of Life at 4 PM with Pastor Richard Myers officiating.  Burial will immediately follow in the church cemetery.

The family requests memorials to be given to The Brown Scholarship c/o Shiloh Reformed Church of Faith or Agape Hospice of Rock Hill.

Powles Staton Funeral Home of Rockwell is assisting the family.
