Carolyn Arey Galloway

GOLD HILL - Mrs. Carolyn Arey Galloway, 71, of Gold Hill, passed away Oct. 28, 2011, at her residence.

Mrs. Galloway was born Aug. 4, 1940, in Stanly County, daughter of the late Fred O. Arey and Ruby Treece Arey.

A graduate of Rockwell High School and Salisbury Business College, she had an Associate Degree in Elementary Education, working in Cabarrus County schools for 27 years as a teachers assistant and a bus driver. She was also a member of the Teacher Assistants Association.

She organized and led the Gold Hill Community Senior Group. Mrs. Galloway was a member of St. Stephen's Lutheran Church, where she was church organist, choir director and playschool director and teacher. She was also director of Wingers Mens Quartet, chair of the Altar Guild Committee and a member of the Church Council. She was church secretary and a Sunday School teacher, vacation Bible School teacher, and music leader. She was a member of the Christian Education Committee and a member of Women of the ELCA.

Survivors include her husband, Earl Henry Galloway who she married June 2006; two daughters, Tammy Maroukis and husband Dave of Kalamazoo, Mich., and Anita Maddaluna and husband Dave of Mount Pleasant; a stepson, Frank Paul of Mt. Pleasant; and a sister, Sylvia Arey Stokes and husband Gary and son Eric of Salisbury. Grandchildren are Brianna Maroukis, Spencer Maroukis, Cory Huneycutt, Lindsey Huneycutt, Morgan Maddaluna, Kendall Maddaluna and Karina Paul.

Service and Visitation: The funeral service will be held at 4:30 p.m. Sunday at St. Stephen's Lutheran Church conducted by the Rev. Constance Garrett, pastor, with burial following in the church cemetery. The family will receive friends at the church prior to the Service between 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Memorials: May be made to St. Stephen's Lutheran Church Playschool.
