Dorothy "Rachel" Rowland Smith
Dorothy "Rachel" Rowland Smith, 76, of Salisbury, passed away Thursday, May 11, 2023.
She was born April 7, 1947, in Gold Hill, to the late Irvin and Lillie Troutman Rowland. Mrs. Smith attended Rockwell School and enjoyed spending time at the beach and in the mountains. She was a member of Parker Memorial Baptist Church in Richfield.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her husband, Rev. Harold R. Smith, Sr.; infant son, Rodney Wayne Holshouser; and siblings, Delmar Rowland, Roy Rowland, Jane Trexler, Bobby Rowland, and Shirley Reavis.
She is survived by her children, Penny Holshouser Biggers (Ed) of Gastonia and Terry O. Holshouser (Teresa) of Gold Hill; sister, Marie Barringer Eller of Albemarle; grandchildren, Rodney O. Holshouser, Starla A. Holshouser, Daniel R. Holshouser, Justin I. Camp, Stephanie M. Swirble Mathis, and Ian Sean R. Camp; and seven great grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, May 16, at Gold Hill Cemetery, with Pastors Brian Smith and Kay Eckstein officiating.
Memorials may be made to Novant Health Hospice, 1229 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to Mrs. Smith's niece, Emma Trexler, for the care she provided.
