Isaac is believed to have been the father of the Van Ness brothers of Standing Stone, Pennsylvania. Isaac and Elizabeth had at least five children, who migrated from Sussex County, NJ to Standing Stone, PA soon after the turn of the 19th century.
(from Cindy Perry e-mail, Aug. 9, 2007)The information my grandmother (mother's mother) gave to her.....and the information in a Towanda paper sometime back (no date on clipping) mentions the Vanness brothers from Sussex Cty, NJ as first and last: George, John, Daniel, and Isaac Whitfield....then their sister Catherine. Yesterday I sent a packet to you which are copies of what I have. So, we still have mysteries to solve. It would make sense that their father was called Isaac....differentiating their son from father by the Whitfield. George was born in 1791, I believe..... John?, Dan was born in 1795, and Isaac W. was born around 1800. THeir sister Catherine married Peter Lantz. The article implies that she moved north with her brothers. Makes me wonder why they all left New Jersey for the Wysox area. The river, perhaps? George owned and ran three saw mills and transported his lumber on the Susquehanna. He was also a blacksmith. The others were lifelong farmers.

Here is the tree that I have (note, the last name seems to alternate between Van Ness and Van Nest, I think they are spelling variations of the same line)…
A. Isaac; (b. 2/20/1763; d. 12/24/1839) baptized 2/23/1763 at Walpack, Port Jervis, NY (mother’s name not given; witness was Isaac Van Nest). Isaac VANNEST was born on 20 Feb 1763 in Sandyston, Sussex, NJ. He was baptized on 23 Feb 1763 in Dutch Reformed Church, Machackemack (Port Jervis), NY. He died on 24 Dec 1839. Isaac and Elzabeth Hankinson married in Sussex County and had a farm near Sandyston where they raised their five children. Around 1816 sons George and John moved their families to Bradford County, Pennsylvania. It is very likely that Isaac and Elizabeth also moved to Bradford County about the same time. All three families appear in 1820 Census of Bradford County with farms near Wysox.By 1830 sons Daniel and Isaac Whifield are married and have farms near Wysox. By 1850 George, Issac Whitfield and John have farms near Standing Stone.
We may assume that Isaac and Elizabeth's youngest child, Catherine, came to Bradford County and was living there with her parents when her cousin Judith, the wife of Peter Lantz, died in 1821. She apparently returned to Sussex County to marry Peter in 1822. Peter and Catherine moved their family to Bradford County about 1825 initially locating in Wysox.
