Bio: Source: Wayne AndrewsGeorge Washington VANNEST was born on 11 Aug 1791 in Walpack, Sussex County, NJ. He died on 24 Dec 1864 in Standing Stone, Bradford, PA. George Vanness moved from Sussex county to Standing Stone, PA in 1816 settling the Henry Fisher place. He was very energetic in clearing and improving his lands and at one time owned and operated three saw mills, shipping his lumber down the Susquehanna on rafts. Being an expert blacksmith, he manufactured many useful articles out of iron.
