Virgie Efird Stoner

Virgie Efird Stoner, 71, Salisbury, died Thursday (May 24, 2001) at Rowan Regional Medical Center after two weeks of serious illness.

Born Sept. 15, 1929, in Rowan County, Mrs. Stoner, a daughter of the late Delta G. and Ida Herlocker Efird, was educated in the Rowan County schools. She retired as a seamstress from B.B. Walker Shoe Co.

A homemaker, she was a member of West Park Baptist Church, Rockwell.

Her husband, James Ray Stoner, died July 19, 1991.

Survivors include son Tommy Ray Stoner, Spencer; daughters Linda Kay Allman and Janette Yost, both of Salisbury; brother Everette Efird, Salisbury; sisters Selma Hodge, Nellie Apperson, Betty Love and Hazel Goodman, all of Rockwell; four grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Saturday, West Park Baptist Church, conducted by the Rev. Charles Carver, pastor, and the Rev. Larry Perry. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, Brookhill Memorial Gardens, Rockwell.

Visitation: 7-9 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. At other times, the family will be at the home.
