He was born Oct. 10, 1931, in Rowan County, the son of the late Luther Alexander Poole and Mary Brady Poole. He was preceded in death by brothers John Thomas Ervin Sr. and Robert Alexander Poole; and a great-grandchild, Emma Rae Poole.

He also is survived by a sister, Mary Catherine Barringer (Robert) of Richfield.

Joseph was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather who loved his family very much. A kind, gentle and loving person, he enjoyed spending time and having fun with his family. He enjoyed going to the coast fishing, gardening, gospel music and ballgames. Joseph especially loved holding and watching his grandchildren grow up.
