Earl Ray Cranford Sr.
ROCKWELL - Mr. Earl Ray Cranford Sr., 101, of Rockwell, passed away Saturday, Jan. 17, 2015, at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury.
He was born Jan. 3, 1914, in Rowan County to the late Cornelia Victoria Cranford.
Mr. Cranford was a veteran of the U.S. Army and reenlisted in the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II. He was employed by Cannon Mills for 20 years and retired from Cone Mill in Salisbury as a fixer.
Mr. Cranford was a member of Rockwell United Methodist Church, where he was the oldest living member.
In addition to his mother, he was preceded in death by his wife, Mrs. Ruby Loretta Brown Cranford; son James Lee Cranford; and daughter Brenda K. Williams.
Mr. Cranford is survived by his son, Mr. Earl Ray Cranford Jr. of Salisbury; daughter Myrtle Greer of Salisbury; five grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; and four great-great- grandchildren.
Visitation: The family will receive friends Tuesday evening, Jan. 20 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Powles Funeral Home in Rockwell.
Service: The funeral service will be held Wednesday, Jan. 21 at 1 p.m. at Rockwell United Methodist Church conducted by Rev. Warren Miller, pastor. Mr. Cranford will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the service.
Burial will follow at the U.S. National Cemetery on Statesville Boulevard in Salisbury, with Military Graveside Rites.
Powles Funeral Home of Rockwell is assisting the family of Mr. Cranford.
