Roger Dale Harwood, 64, of Albemarle passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 13, 2018 in his home. His funeral service will be 1 PM Saturday, January 20, 2018 at Second Street Presbyterian Church in Albemarle, with Rev. John Black and Rev. Kenneth Ribelin officiating. Burial will follow in Fairview Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral and Cremation Care on Friday evening from 6 until 8 PM.
Born May 29, 1953 in Cabarrus County, NC, Roger was the son of the late Luther Berry Harwood and Stella Marie Pate Harwood. He was a Piano Tuner/Technician and owner of Harwood Piano Service. Roger was an active member of the Piano Technicians Guild – Charlotte Chapter and received his Registered Piano Technician (RPT) designation in 2013, which was the highlight of his career. As a member of Second Street Presbyterian Church, he served as both Deacon and Elder. He also taught Sunday School, volunteered countless hours with VBS, was a choir member and soloist, where his talent and passion for music and the Lord shined.
Roger loved spending time with his family, especially making and flying R/C and paper airplanes with his grandsons. His other hobbies included fishing, tying knots, watching and playing sports, shooting rockets, and woodworking. His inquisitive nature allowed him to be a lifelong learner and teacher.
Roger is survived by his wife of 41 years, Joyce Ribelin Harwood, sons Chris Harwood and wife Jennifer of Albemarle, Justin Harwood and wife Heather of Charlotte, sisters Carolyn Holt of Albemarle and Debbie Oram-Smith of Murrells Inlet, SC, two grandsons Andrew and Evan, and one granddaughter, Lily, due in May.
The family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all who have supported Roger and Joyce with love and prayer. They also wish to thank the doctors, nurses and staff of Levine Cancer Institute in addition to Hospice of Stanly & The Uwharrie for their compassionate care.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Second Street Presbyterian Church, Albemarle, NC.
