Stella Harwood

ALBEMARLE Mrs. Stella Marie Pate Harwood, 84, passed away Thursday, Dec. 6, 2012, at the Sandy Ridge Assisted Living Center, in Candor. Her service will be held at 2 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 9, in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Stoney Benfield officiating and burial in the Oak Grove United Methodist Church Cemetery.

Visitation will be held from 1 to 1:45 p.m., prior to the hour of the service.

Mrs. Harwood was born Oct. 22, 1928, in White County, Ark., to the late Lemmie D. Pate and Estelle Corbett Pate. She was a retired employee of Collins & Aikman Corp. and was a member of Prospect Baptist Church.

She was married to the late Luther B. Harwood, Jr., who preceded her in death, in 1989.

Survivors include a son, Roger Harwood and wife, Joyce, of Albemarle; two daughters, Carolyn Holt and husband, Jerry, of Albemarle, and Deborah Oram-Smith and husband, William, of Murrells Inlet, S.C.; brother; Austin V. Pate, of Albemarle; sister, Maedene Barbee, of Albemarle; five grandchildren, Jerry Holt, Jr., Summer Holt Miller, Chris Harwood, Justin Harwood and Ashley Oram-Smith; and eight great-grand-children.

Memorials can be made to the Prospect Baptist Church Building Fund, Stanly County Humane Society, or Hospice of Stanly County.

Stanly Funeral Home of Albemarle is entrusted with arrangements.
