Edith “Granny” Brown

SALISBURY - Edith Hope "Granny" Basinger Brown, 87, of 4340 Mount Hope Church Road, died Thursday, Dec. 29, 2005, at Genesis Eldercare.

Mrs. Brown was born Jan. 7, 1918, in Cabarrus County to the late Calvin L. and Effie Wyatt Basinger. Educated in the Rowan County schools, she retired from Cannon Mills after 45 years of service. She was a member of Rock Grove United Methodist Church and the Ladies Sunday School Class.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Clifford Alexander Brown, on Nov. 4, 1990; her son, Stephen Joe Brown, on Sept. 5, 1991; and grandsons Randy Story, Gary Brown and Phillip Brown.

Mrs. Brown is survived by sons Franklin Max Brown, James Ray Brown and Bobby C. Brown and wife Margaret all of Salisbury; daughters Patsy Brown Story and husband Lloyd of Gold Hill and Alice Faye Brown Bennett of Salisbury; daughter-in-law Carole Brown of Salisbury; sisters Kaye Basinger of Rockwell and Ruth Holt of Reidsville; 11 grandchildren; 25 great-grandchildren; and nine great-great-grandchildren.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight at Linn-Honeycutt Funeral Home, China Grove.

Service: The funeral service will be held at 3 p.m. Saturday at Rock Grove United Methodist Church conducted by the Rev. Billy Ervin. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: Memorials may be sent to Rock Grove United Methodist Church.
