Man wanted in death of Granite Quarry couple turns himself in

Khalil Abdul Farook turned himself in at the magistrate’s office in Salisbury Tuesday evening.
Farook was wanted on charges of felony hit and run in the Sunday accident that killed Tommy “Mark” Marshall Jones Jr., 47, and Suzette Burleson Jones, 48, both of Granite Quarry.
According to the Highway Patrol, Farook was driving a Saturn when the car ran off the right side of the road, he overcorrected and collided with the Harley Davidson that the Joneses were riding. The accident occurred on Airport Road. Farook ran from the scene.
Farook, who has a long criminal history, including assault and murder, is in the Rowan County Jail on $800,000 bond. Charges are two counts of felony death by vehicle, felony hit and run, driving while impaired, driving while license revoked, reckless driving and left of center.
Farook, 50, of 145 Briarwood Lake Drive, is also known as Donald Ray Miller and Duck Miller.

Warrant issued for man accused in double fatality

SALISBURY — Authorities have obtained a warrant for a Salisbury man accused of killing a man and a woman on a motorcycle when his car crossed into the wrong lane Sunday night on Airport Road.
Khalil Abdul Farook, of Briarwood Lake Drive, is wanted on charges of felony hit and run, said First Sgt. F.C. Ferguson of the N.C. State Highway Patrol.
Farook, a convicted murderer, is also known as Donald Ray Miller, or “Duck” Miller.
The accident happened around 7 p.m. Sunday.
Farook was driving a gold 1996 Saturn about 7 p.m. when the vehicle ran off the right side of the road, the Highway Patrol said. He overcorrected and crossed into the left lane near the intersection of Airport Road and Village Creek Way, into the path of an oncoming Harley Davidson.
Tommy “Mark” Marshall Jones Jr., 47, and Suzette Burleson Jones, 48, both of Granite Quarry, were killed.
Farook abandoned his car and fled on foot, authorities said.
Farook, 50, was released from prison in September after he was convicted of stabbing and cutting his ex-wife in 2000, according to N.C. Department of Corrections online records.
Prior to attacking his ex-wife, Farook was convicted of shooting Willie Ronald Smith in the head at close range in 1990.
Smith was found lying in the middle of Grant Street.
Farook spent two years on the run before surrendering to authorities in Los Angeles in 1992.
Department of Corrections records show Farook was paroled last year. His parole ended May 31.

The two passengers on the Harley Davidson were killed instantly.
