Brenda Lyerly Davis
ROCKWELL -- The funeral will be Friday for Brenda Lyerly Davis, 59, Rockwell, who died Tuesday (Sept. 17, 2002) at her home.
Born June 29, 1943, in Rowan County, Mrs. Davis was a daughter of Jossie Poole Lyerly, Rockwell, and the late Lee Luther Lyerly. She graduated from East Rowan High School in 1961 and received BLET law enforcement certification at Rowan-Cabarrus Community College.
Retired from First Union Bank after 33 years, she worked as an emergency room greeter at Rowan Regional Medical Center for five years. She was a special deputy for Rowan County Sheriff's Department. She also worked for F&M Bank.
A member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, she was church treasurer, treasurer and past president of WELCA, a member of the church council, chairperson of the musical and worship committee for 10 years, a member of the finance committee and the Irene Beaver Circle, vacation Bible school co-director, lay reader, greeter coordinator, communion assistant, and coordinator of Mother's Day and Father's Day booklets for the church.
Presider of the Central Conference of WELCA, Mrs. Davis was Lutheran Church Women district treasurer, North Carolina WELCA state treasurer and executive board member and registrar of the North Carolina State Convention. She volunteered with Hospice and Dial Help.
A daughter, Miste Dawn Lyerly, died May 18, 1984.
Survivors, in addition to her mother, include husband Jerry Carl Davis, whom she married Aug. 17, 1985; and brother George Lyerly, Albemarle.
Services:2 p.m. Friday, Immanuel Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bruce Sheeks. Rowan County Sheriff's Department personnel will be seated as a group. Burial, church cemetery.
Visitation: 6-9 tonight, Powles Funeral Home. At other times the family will be at the home.
Memorials: Immanuel Lutheran Church.
