Doris L. Fortune

SALISBURY - Doris Valarie Stogner Livengood Fortune, 79, of Salisbury, passed away July 14, 2014, at her residence.

She was born Sept. 12, 1934, in Rowan County, the daughter of the late Melvarine Cauble Stogner and Charles W. Stogner. Doris attended Rowan County schools, was a homemaker, and loved to spend time with her family, go to the beach, sing and play the piano. She was a member of Eastside Baptist Church.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her first husband, Billy N. Livengood; husband Bill Fortune Sr.; son Terry Livengood; and grandchildren Douglas Redwine and Wendy Martin Lowe.

Left to cherish her memory are her son, Billy Ray Livengood (Sharon) of Salisbury; daughter Debbie L. Varner of Salisbury; daughter-in-law Connie Livengood of Salisbury; grandchildren Tammy Lemmons, Eric Livengood (Jodi), Larry Bryant (Michele), Terry Alan Livengood (Celina White) and Angela Horton (Jeff); 19 great-grandchildren, Stephanie Lemmons, Lauren Livengood, Ashlee Wagoner, Shelbee, Logan and Emmaree Bryant, Brooklyn, Zackery and Emily Livengood, Shelby, Steven and Ashley White, Alysha and Savannah Shaver, Patricia Sipes, Laney and Jordin Horton, and Victor and Billy Lowe; great-great-grandchildren Amad, Sophia and Samuel Lowe; and stepson Bill Fortune, Jr and wife.

The family would like to say a special thank you to Connie Livengood, who was a loving caregiver to her husband, Terry, who passed away April 10, 2014, and also to Doris, her mother-in-law, during their final months.

Arrangements: Visitation will be Thursday, July 17 from 10-11 a.m. at Eastside Baptist Church, 370 Trexler Road, Salisbury, NC 28146. The service will follow at 11 a.m. with Rev. Joe Black officiating. Burial to follow at Brookhill Memorial Garden, 8675 Hwy. 52, Rockwell, NC 28138.

Memorials: American Cancer Society of Rowan County, and Rowan Hospice and Palliative Care.
