SALISBURY - Mr. Ray Griffin, 76, of Salisbury, passed away Saturday, April 19, 2014 at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, Winston Salem.

Ray was born Nov. 10, 1937 in Stanly County, the son of the late James Crofford Griffin and Virginia Kirk Griffin.

Ray attended Richfield High School, was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church in Salisbury, and had formerly served on the Church Council and was a past president of the Believers Sunday school class. He loved fishing and outdoor activities.Ray dearly loved his family and grandchildren. Ray had retired as a Transport Driver from Home Oil and Coal/Chandler Concrete in Salisbury with 52 years of service.

Survivors include his wife, Shirley Owens Griffin, whom he married Dec. 3, 1961; daughter, Sonya Griffin Smith and husband Billy of Gold Hill; grandchildren, Chandler Bassinger and Alyssa Smith of Gold Hill; sisters, Marcine Peacock of Gold Hill, Bernice Smith of Misenheimer and Louise Smith of Salisbury; and special nieces and nephews.

Visitation: 2-3:45 p.m. Tuesday, April 22, 2014 at the Family Life Center of St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Salisbury and the remainder of the time at the residence.

Funeral Service: 4 p.m. Tuesday at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, conducted by Rev. Gary S. Coble, pastor. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: Memorials may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church, Building Improvement and Scholarship Fund.
