Shirley Owens Griffin

Shirley Owens Griffin, 76, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, September 27, 2017 at Autumn Care of Salisbury.  

She was born July 14, 1941 in Gold Hill, NC a daughter of the late Harvie and Mary Belle Hodge Owens. Shirley was a 1959 graduate of Rockwell High School, and worked for Food Lion. Shirley was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, a member of the Triangle Circle, and the Believers Sunday School Class. She enjoyed gardening, working in her flower beds and spending time with her family and friends.

In addition to her parents, Shirley was preceded in death by her Husband, Crofford "Ray" Griffin; sisters, Edna Stoner and Margaret Owens; and brother, Melvin Owens.

Shirley is survived by daughter, Sonya Smith and husband Billy of Gold Hill; grandson, Chandler Bassinger; granddaughter, Alyssa Smith; two sisters, Teenie Waller and husband Tom of Salisbury, and Linda Ketner and husband Mike of Sugar Grove, VA; brother-in-law, Gene Stoner of Salisbury; three sister-in-laws, Marcine Peacock of Gold Hill, Bernice Smith of Misenheimer, and Louise Smith of Salisbury.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Friday, September 29, 2017, 2:00 pm - 4:00 pm at St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Family Life Center, Salisbury, NC.

The funeral service will be held at 4:00 pm on Friday, September 29, 2017, in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Rev. Gary S Coble, officiating.

Burial will follow in the St. Matthew's Lutheran Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to St. Matthews Lutheran Church Building Improvement Fund or Sanctuary Renovation Fund. 

The family would like to extend a special thanks to Cindy Wise at the Levine Cancer Center and Dr. Shaun Robinson at the Cabarrus Eye Center for the thorough and compassionate care they gave to Ms. Griffin.
