SALISBURY - David Ray "T-Bird" Talbert, 54, of Salisbury, passed away Tuesday, February 5, 2008, at Forsyth Medical Center, Winston-Salem.

David was born December 29, 1953, in Stanly County, the son of Hoyle Ray "Shotgun" Talbert and Helen Rae Austin Talbert of Rockwell. A 1972 graduate of East Rowan High School, he graduated in 1976 from the University of North Carolina, Charlotte, with a Bachelor of Arts in Social Studies Education.

David was member of St. James Lutheran Church, former member of the Church Council, former Sunday School teacher and a member of Rockwell Amvets Post 460.

He taught at Albemarle High School from 1977-1984 and East Rowan High School from 1984-1985, where he coached football, girls and boys basketball, baseball and girls softball. In 1985, he joined Rockwell Casket Company as a salesman.

In addition to his parents, survivors include wife Gina Poole Talbert, whom he married June 17, 1978; son Derek Talbert of the home; daughter Taren Talbert of the home; sister Ann T. Eidson and husband Wally of Rockwell; and best friend Jamey Ledbetter of Rockwell.

Visitation: The family will be at Powles Funeral Home from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday and the remainder of the time at the residence.

Funeral Services: 3 p.m. Thursday at St. James Lutheran Church, Rockwell, conducted by Rev. Craig Sigmon, Pastor. Burial will follow at church cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Jean Fisher Poole-David Ray Talbert Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 486, Rockwell, NC 28138.
