Olin Lane Basinger

Olin Lane Basinger, 74, of Salisbury, passed away Wednesday, February 6, 2019 at Presbyterian Hospital-Main in Charlotte, NC. 

He was born September 26, 1944 in Rowan County, NC to Osco and Roberta Kluttz Basinger. Olin was a 1962 graduate of East Rowan High School and he graduated from Danville Tech with an associated degree. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church, a member of the Faith Jaycees, member and past president of the Faith Civitan Club where he received a number of awards, he was an Eagle Scout and assistant Scout Master at troop 333 at St. Matthews Lutheran Church, he served on the Rowan County Scout Round Table. Olin served on the Rowan County Fair Board, and he worked with the East Rowan Marching Band Parents Association.

Olin worked for Taylor Manufacturing, Litton Industries and Western Atlas for over 29 years, then he went to work at Freightliner for over 19 years, he also worked part time security at the Charlotte Motor Speedway for over 20 years.

Olin was an avid drag racer of Volkswagens, traveling all over the east coast. 

In addition to his parents, Olin was preceded in death by his brother, Osco Lee Basinger.

Olin is survived by his wife Audrey Hill Basinger, whom he married April 4, 1971; daughters, Gina Basinger, and Kristie Basinger-Retzer; son, Ryan Lane Basinger; granddaughters, Kaylea Retzer, Celine Basinger, Anastasia Retzer, and Tatyonna Retzer; grandsons, Lucian Basinger, Vinzent Retzer, and Nicoles Retzer; great-granddaughters, Gwenn-Willow Retzer, and Emberly Stone; sister, Myraline Trexler and husband Jerry; nieces, Marnie Basinger Deal, and Lisa Trexler; nephews, Daniel Basinger and David Trexler. 

The family will greet friends and relatives on Thursday, February 14, 2019 from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.

The funeral service will be held at 4:00 PM on Friday, February 15, 2019 at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Salisbury, NC, with Rev. Sean Barrett and Rev. Tommy Beaver, officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Boy Scouts Troop 333 c/o St. Matthews Lutheran Church, or to the American Heart Association.
