Arlie Hill

Mr. Arlie Hubert Hill, 93 of Salisbury passed away on Sunday, February 14, 2016 at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center. Mr. Hill was born May 19, 1922 in Cabarrus County, son of the late Lawson Grant Hill and Alice Kepley Hill.

Mr. Hill was educated in the Rowan County Schools where he attended Shaver School and had retired as a Delivery Driver for Suburban Propane, where he worked for 32 years. He was also a farmer and loved to work in his garden. He was a member of St. Peters Lutheran Church. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, where he served under General Douglas MacArthur. His tour included The Amity Islands, Loyalty Islands, New Guinea Islands, the Philippines and Australia.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his wife, Geneva Brown Hill, grandson in law Steve Retzer and three brothers, Grant J. Hill, Robert Spencer Hill, and Ralph Clayton Hill.

He is survived by his daughter, Audrey Hill Basinger and husband Olin, sister Myrtle Hill Morgan, grandchildren Gina Basinger, Kristie Basinger-Retzer and Ryan Basinger and wife Amity and also by 7 great grandchildren and 1 great great grandchild. He is also survived by his special companion Thelma Riblein.

The family will receive friends at Powles Staton Funeral Home on Wednesday, February 17 from 6:30 until 8:30.

The funeral service will be on Thursday, February 18 at 2:00 PM at St. Peter's Lutheran Church conducted by Rev. Sean Barrett, pastor and Rev. Tommy Beaver. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery with military graveside rites conducted by the Rowan County Veterans Honor Guard and the U.S. National Guard.
