Osco L. Basinger

SALISBURY - Mr. Osco Lee Basinger, 68, of Salisbury, passed away at his residence Thursday, Sept. 29, 2011.

He was born in Rowan County on March 16, 1943, a son of the late Osco Clay Basinger and Roberta Kluttz Basinger.

A 1961 graduate of East Rowan High School, Osco had also graduated from Rowan Technical College with an Associate Degree in Automotive Mechanics. He was an Automotive Mechanic teacher at North Rowan High School before being deployed to Desert Storm. Osco had also worked with P&G Security.

Mr. Basinger was a member of St. Matthews Lutheran Church and Faith American Legion Post 327.

Mr. Basinger was a member of the 991st Transportation US Army Reserves.

Survivors include his wife, Barbara Ketchie Basinger, who he married Nov. 24, 1962; son Daniel Basinger and wife Amanda of Faith; daughter Marnie B. Deal and husband Danny of Faith; granddaughter Alyssa Deal; brother Olin Basinger and wife Audrey of Salisbury; sister Myraline B. Trexler and husband Jerry of Salisbury; a special aunt, Bernita Abernathy of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Visitation: The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at Powles Funeral Home and will be at the residence the remainder of the time.

Services: The funeral will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Powles Funeral Home Chapel by Rev. David Ridenhour, pastor of St. Peter's Lutheran Church. Burial will follow at the Salisbury National Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites by the North Carolina Honor Guard and the Rowan County Honor Guard.
