Harold Ray Basinger

GOLD HILL - Mr. Harold Ray Basinger, Sr., 82, of Gold Hill, passed away Saturday, Nov. 19, 2011, at the Brian Center in Salisbury.

Harold was born April 13, 1929, in Rowan County, the son of the late Lucille Basinger Hatley.

Educated in the Shaver School and Ponds School, Harold was a lifelong member of Luther's Lutheran Church in Richfield, and was active at church as long as his health permitted.

Harold retired in 1984 with 35 years of service with the NCDOT as a motor grader operator.

He enjoyed gardening, being with his family and his community. Harold loved to help with chicken and dumplings at Liberty Fire Dept., the Denton Farm Park and the Wheat Threshing at Baxter Ribelins farm and he loved woodworking.

In addition to his parents, Harold was preceded in death by his brothers, Donald Basinger and Larry Hatley.

Survivors include his wife, Blanch Geraldine Hatley Basinger, who he married April 14, 1951; sons Harold Ray Basinger, Jr., Terry Lynn Basinger and wife Angie of Gold Hill; daughter Kay Hendrix of Gold Hill; grandchildren Gabriel Basinger, Jason Morgan and wife Melissa, Cindy Rogers and husband Danny, Lynn Basinger and wife Beverly and Chris Basinger; great- grandchildren Brooke Morgan, Morgan and Anna Rogers, Katelyn, Emery and Aubrey Basinger.

Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends from 2:30 till 3 p.m. Monday, Nov. 21 at Luther's Lutheran Church, Richfield, with funeral services at 3 p.m., conducted by Rev. Carol Yeager, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in memory of Mr. Basinger to Luther's Lutheran Church, 4955 Richfield Road, Richfield, NC 28137.
