Charlie David Shepherd

The funeral will be Friday for Charlie David Shepherd, 74, Salisbury, who died Wednesday (March 21, 2001) at his home.

Born Oct. 22, 1926, in Rowan County, Mr. Shepherd, a son of the late Charlie Calvin and Grace Smith Shepherd, was a 1944 graduate of Rockwell High School.
Employed by Hendrick-Fowler Motor Co. for 24 years, he retired as a maintenance mechanic from Alcoa Aluminum in 1986.

He was a lifetime member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church and a former member of the church council. A former Scoutmaster of Troop 333, he had been a member of Pooletown Volunteer Fire Department and Rowan County School Board. He was also a member of South Lexington Bass Masters Club.

Survivors include wife Ruby Inez Shepherd, whom he married Feb. 1, 1947; sons Larry and Sammy Shepherd, both of Salisbury; daughter Shelia Shepherd, Salisbury; brothers Albert and Ralph Shepherd, both of Salisbury; sister Elizabeth S. File, Salisbury; and four grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Friday, St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Bill Jeffcoat. The body will be placed in the church at 1:30. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7-8:30 tonight, Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home.

Memorials: St. Matthew's Lutheran Church, Youth Multi-Purpose Building Fund.
