Samuel Clark "Sammy" Miller

Samuel Clark "Sammy" Miller, 82, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, June 4, 2021.

He was born February 2, 1939, in Rowan County, to the late Joseph Clark and Alice Williams Miller. Mr. Miller attended Granite Quarry School and served in the North Carolina National Guard for seven years before being honorably discharged. He worked for Carolina Maid for many years before retiring from Rowan County Housing Authority where he worked in maintenance. Mr. Miller was a lifelong member of Dunn's Mountain Baptist Church where he was in charge of the cemetery for many years. He enjoyed traveling to Alaska where he and his wife served on three mission trips over the years. Known as "Mr. Fix It," he was a man of many trades who especially loved carpentry work. He also enjoyed his animal companions, especially cats, and playing golf and softball.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Drye Miller; and siblings, Tim Miller, Barbara Ann Hepler, and, Ronnie Miller.

Mr. Miller is survived by his daughters, Renee Shrewsbury and husband, Barry, of Salisbury and Sarah McManus of Concord; granddaughter, Hannah McManus of Concord; sister, Betty Jean Thompson of Salisbury; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends and relatives on Monday, June 7, 2021, 1:00 pm - 2:30 pm at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell.

The funeral service will follow at 2:30 pm on Monday in the chapel of Powles Staton Funeral Home with Rev. Bill Hallman officiating.

Burial with military graveside rites will take place in Dunn's Mountain Baptist Church Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Novant Health Hospice, 1229 Statesville Boulevard, Salisbury, NC.
