Mary Lou Shaver Drye

GOLD HILL - Mrs. Mary Lou Shaver Drye, 88, of Gold Hill, passed away Sunday, Nov. 18, 2012, at Rowan Regional Medical Center in Salisbury.

Mrs. Drye was born April 16, 1924, in Rowan County, a daughter of the late Adam Franklin Mack Neely Shaver and Lillie Mae Arey Shaver.

She was a 1940 Graduate of Rockwell High School and had retired from Carolina Maid. A member of Liberty United Methodist Church, Mrs. Drye was active with the UMYF and had been a Sunday School teacher for the Young Peoples Class and the Teen Class.

She was a member of the Home Demonstration Club, enjoyed spending time with her family, and loved fishing.

In addition to her parents, Mrs. Drye was preceded in death by her husband, Claude A. Drye Sr.; grandson Johnny Ray Caudle; son-in-law Bobby Caudle; brothers Frank, Raymond, Daniel, Edd and Irving; and infant sister, Icy.

Survivors include two sons, Claude A. Drye, Jr. and wife Nancy of Salisbury and James C. Drye and wife Bonnie of Walkertown; two daughters, Margaret D. Miller and husband Samuel of Salisbury and Nancy D. Caudle of Gold Hill; two brothers, J. Calvin Shaver and James R. Shaver, both of Gold Hill; nine grandchildren, Renee Shrewsbury and husband Barry, Sarah McManus and husband Donald, Rebecca Ludwick and husband T.W., Susan Swing and friend Bobby, Wendy Drye, Sherry Kluttz and husband Joe, Angela McCann and husband Tim, James Drye, Jr. and wife Kim and Clay Drye and wife Lea; 11 great-grandchildren, Hannah McManus, Daniel Kesler, Noah Drye, Brian Kluttz, Carson McCann, London McCann, Michael Drye, Brandon Drye, Ella Drye, Aurora Drye and Thomas "Peanut' Ludwick Jr.; and two great-great-grandchildren, Trevor and Austin Ludwick.

Visitation: The family will receive friends at Liberty United Methodist Church from 3 to 4 p.m. Tuesday.

Services: Funeral Services will be conducted at 4 p.m. Tuesday at Liberty United Methodist Church by Rev. Charlie Curtis, pastor. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
