Marvin James Park

After an extended illness, Marvin James Park, 85, of Rockwell passed away at Liberty Commons Nursing and Rehabilitation Center on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 surrounded by family members. He was born on November 28, 1930 in Rowan County, son of the late Murry Adolphus Park and Effie Basinger Park.

He attended Park School and China Grove High School. He worked in the number 7 weave and slasher rooms for Cannon Mills in Kannapolis, North Carolina for 44 years prior to his retirement in 1992. He loved spending time in his woodworking shop making yard swings and many other furniture items for his friends, neighbors and family.

He was a life-time member of Organ Lutheran Church where he served on the Church Council as chairman of the Property Committee. He became a member of Keller Memorial Masonic Lodge 657 in Rockwell in 1973 and moved his membership to Eureka Masonic Lodge 283 in China Grove in 1988.

He was preceded in death by his eldest son Terry Marvin Park (Vickie, who survives) and by five of his six siblings; Clarence O. Park, Jason Park, Hazel Park Dabbs, Ezella Park Fesperman and Susie Park Pinion.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Janet Shuping Park of Rockwell; sons Alvin Ross Park (Sandra) of China Grove, NC and DPCS (SW) Don R. Park, USN, Ret of Goose Creek, SC; Grandchildren Anne Park White (Chip) of Mooresville, NC; Jeremy Terran Park (Claire) of Winnetka, CA; Amanda Park Basinger (Joseph) of Rockwell, NC; and Brandi Park Buckman (Shawn) of Oklahoma City, OK; and Great Grandchildren Matthew White, Kathleen White, Christian Basinger, Noah Basinger, Ava Basinger, Kailee Buckman and Rylee Buckman. He is also survived by a brother, Robert L. Park (Barbara) of Salisbury, NC.

Visitation and Service: The family will receive friends from 6 PM until 8 PM on Friday, April 29 at Powles Staton Funeral Home in Rockwell, NC. The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 30th at 11 AM at Organ Lutheran Church with the Pastor Carlin Ours officiating. Masonic graveside rites will be conducted.
