Roy Ellis McIntyre

Roy Ellis McIntyre, age 73 of Millingport, NC, passed away on January 30th, 2024 surrounded by the love of his devoted family.

Funeral services will be held 3pm Friday February 2, 2024 at Bear Creek Reformed Church, 18937 Bear Creek Ch. Rd., Mt. Pleasant NC, officiated by Rev. Patrick McCabe. Burial will follow in the church cemetery with honors by the City of Albemarle Police Department. The McIntyre family will receive friends from 2-3 prior to the service.

Born on December 29th, 1950 in Macon, Georgia, Roy was a loving husband, father, and grandfather, who dedicated his life to his family. He created a legacy, of love and devotion, that will forever be cherished by those who were blessed to be a part of his life. Roy was a devoted member and Elder of Bear Creek Reformed Church for many years. He is preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Emily McIntyre, as well as a sister, Mary Ann.

Roy was a proud Navy veteran, who served his country with honor. His great sense of patriotism remained throughout his entire life. In addition, his commitment to the military extended beyond his own service, as he took immense pride in being born in a military family.

In addition to his military service, Roy served his community, the city of Albemarle, as a dedicated police officer for 20 years. He truly sought to protect and serve others, exemplifying his selfless nature and deep sense of duty.

Roy never met a stranger. He had such an ability to connect with others. He loved to have conversations and to talk about his life experiences. He embodied kindness and warmth. He had a genuine interest in others and was always willing to lend a helping hand. As a result, he made lasting impressions on friends and strangers alike.

Throughout his life, Roy cultivated diverse interests that reflected his vibrant personality. From a young age, Roy played and developed a love for sports, particularly football and golf. As a passionate football fan, Roy supported the Carolina Panthers. He loved to cheer them on through their victories and defeats. As an avid golfer, he enjoyed the peacefulness of a golf course, but more importantly, being able to spend time with people he loved. Throughout his life, Roy developed a profound interest in space inspired by his father’s involvement in rockets in the 1960’s. He loved to impart this passion, especially with his sons and grandchildren. He enjoyed admiring a beautiful moon. Lastly, Roy found solace and joy through music. Always a classic rock lover, Roy could play a fitting song for any occasion.

Family meant everything to Roy. He is survived by his wonderful wife, of 48 years, Nancy, and their two sons: Scott and Mark (Joleen). He was also a wonderful grandfather to his grandchildren: Isley, Macy, Dayton, and Watson.

In addition to his immediate family, he is survived by his three sisters: Emily, Tammy (Gene), and Gail (Sam). Roy leaves behind many other relatives and friends who will cherish the memories shared.

As one says goodbye, one shall remember Roy and his wonderful spirit. May his memory be a blessing and may he rest in peace.

The family would like to thank the staff of Spring Arbor, and Tillery Compassion Care, who cared for Roy in his final months.

In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to Bethel Bear Creek Reformed Church, 18937 Bear Creek Church Road, Mt. Pleasant NC, or Alzheimer’s Society.
