Harold Lane Harkey, 80, of Albemarle passed away Saturday, June 27, 2015 in Montgomery Village, Star, NC. His memorial service will 11 AM Wednesday, July 1st, 2015 in the Stanly Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Elizabeth Ayscue officiating. The family will receive friends at Stanly Funeral Home from 10 AM until 11 AM prior to the service. Burial will follow in Stanly Gardens of Memory.
Born March 24, 1935 in Stanly County, NC, he was the son of the late Martin Harkey and Gladys Terry Harkey and was a retired employee of Suburban Propane with 40 years of service. He was a member of Main Street United Methodist Church. Mr. Harkey was a veteran of the US Army Reserves 227th Transportation Unit in Albemarle.
Mr. Harkey was preceded in death by his wife of 58 years, Sylvia Rogers Harkey on November 18, 2014. He is survived by a daughter Sharon Harkey Lambeth and husband Johnny of Norwood, brother Martin Clifford Harkey of Fayetteville, grandchildren Meredith McIntyre Curran and husband Matthew of Matthews, NC, John Robert McIntyre and wife Catherine of Albemarle, and 3 great-grandchildren.
The family requests that memorials be made to Make-A-Wish-America, or to the Stanly County Humane Society.
