George "Lee" Powell
George "Lee" Powell, 60, of Albemarle , passed away on Thursday, January 19, 2017 at Duke University Medical Center in Durham, surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Hellen (Eury) Powell whom he married on December 7, 1980.
Lee was born on November 2, 1956 to Paul Dean Powell and Lois Lomax Powell Goodman in Baltimore, MD. He was co-owner of Stanly Custom Metals, a heating and air company. Lee was a member of Liberty United Methodist Church in Gold Hill.
Lee enjoyed spending time working on cars, lawnmowers and tractors. He also loved to fish. He was a dependable person who would always lend a hand to anyone in need. His family was the most important part of his life and he was a loving husband, father and brother who will be greatly missed.
In addition to his parents, Lee was preceded in death by a brother, Randy Dean Powell.
Lee is survived by his wife, Hellen Eury Powell; son, Jeremy Powell of Albemarle; three sisters, Brenda Melton Coley of Albemarle, Barbara Powell Poplin of Albemarle, and Deborah Lynn Goodman Hopkins and husband Steve of Gold Hill.
A visitation will be held on Monday, January 23, 2017 from 2-3 pm at Liberty United Methodist in Gold Hill. A service will follow the visitation at 3 pm in the church with Rev. Charlie Curtis, pastor, officiating. Burial will follow the service in the church cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Lee's name may be sent to a favorite animal charity of your choice.
