Tuesday, March 13, 2007 — John William “Lefty” Lisk, 83, of 23291 Endy Road, Albemarle, died at 4:40 a.m. Sunday, March 11, 2007, in Stanly Manor.

His funeral will be at 4 p.m. Wednesday in St. Martin Lutheran Church, where he was a member. The Rev Judy Copeland will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery with military honors by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.

Born Jan. 17, 1924, in Rowan County, he was a son of the late Burlie and Lottie Kluttz Lisk and was a welder for Alcoa at Badin. He graduated from Richfield High School and Albemarle High School and attended Catawba College. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II from February 1943 to January 1946, 114th AAA Gun Battalion. He played professional baseball in the Pittsburgh Farm System and was inducted into the N.C. Legion Hall of Fame, Stanly County Hall of Fame and Catawba College Hall of Fame.

A daughter-in-law, Kay Underwood Lisk, preceded him in death.

He is survived by his wife, Billie Lisk, whom he married July 21, 1943; two sons, Marvin Lisk of Albemarle and John Lisk Jr. of Atlanta, Ga.; three grandchildren, Jamie Laxton of Raleigh, Kyle Lee Lisk of Atlanta, Ga., and Samantha Lisk of Albemarle.

The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. today at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle. At other times they will be at his home.
