Frank Ripley Brown

Frank Ripley Brown, Sr., 91, of Charlotte died at Asbury Care on Wednesday, December 29, 2004. Funeral service for Mr. Brown will be held at Dilworth United Methodist Church on Sunday, January 2, 2005 at 2:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service in the fellowship hall at the church. Interment with military honors will be in Liberty United Methodist Church Cemetery on Monday, January 3, at 11:00 AM.

Mr. Brown was born November 24, 1913, in Nantucket, MA, son of the late Herbert L. and Annie Nickerson Brown. Frank was retired from the U.S. Army with the rank of Lt. Colonel having served in World War II and during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He was a member of Dilworth United Methodist Church and the Charles P. Bowles Sunday School Class.Mr. Brown was also retired from WBT Radio where he was employed as a transmitter engineer. Frank enjoyed a variety of activities and hobbies that included golf, reading, crossword puzzles, gardening, and making Nantucket Lightship Baskets.

Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Rena Morgan Brown of Charlotte; son, Frank R. Brown, Jr. and his wife, Ada of Winterville, NC; daughters, Anne C. Gardener and her husband, Bruce of Pacifica, CA. and Betsy Brown and her friend, Kirk Johnson of Asheville, NC; sister, Mrs. Helen B. Olcott of Martha's Vineyard; grandson, Morgan Brown and granddaughter, Emilia Brown of Winterville, NC and several nieces and nephews.

In lieu of flowers the family requests that memorials be made to the Charles P. Bowles Memorial Scholarship Fund, c/o Dilworth United Methodist Church, 605 East Blvd, Charlotte, NC.

Arrangements are in the care of Hankins & Whittington Dilworth Chapel.
