GRANITE QUARRY - Mrs. Betty Lou Lingle Gaither, 61, of Park Ave., Granite Quarry, died Thursday at Rowan Regional Medical Center, Salisbury. Death was unexpected.

The funeral will be 2 p.m. Saturday at Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry, with the Rev. Dr. Kay W. Gotulla, pastor, officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery. The body will lie in state 30 minutes prior to the funeral.

She was born Dec. 20, 1935, in Rowan County, a daughter of Mrs. Buna Kesler Lingle of Salisbury, and the late Mr. Claude Brown Lingle Sr. She was a 1954 graduate of Rockwell High School, and in 1991, she retired from the accounts payable department of Food Lion offices, with 21 years of service. She was a former chairman of Council on Ministries, a former member of the Granite Quarry Planning Board, and was a former Girl Scout and Brownie leader. She was a member of Shiloh United Methodist Church, Granite Quarry, and was a member of the United Methodist Church Women, and was former secretary, treasurer and president. She was also a Sunday school teacher for many years, working with adults and children.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Wallace C. Gaither Sr., whom she married on June 12, 1955. She is also survived by her son, W.C. Gaither Jr. of Rockwell; daughters, Melinda Joan Gaither of Granite Quarry, and Crystal Dawn Vanhoy of China Grove; brother, Claude B. Lingle Jr. of Salisbury; sister, Bonnie June Sechler of Salisbury; and three grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 7-9 p.m. Friday at Powles Funeral Home, Rockwell.
