Christenberry was crippled before his death, and the family lived in Montgomery County. After his death (before the youngest child was born), Mary's father, Abraham Shaver, moved her and the family to eastern Rowan County.

Christenberry is buried in an unmarked grave near his grandparents, Benjamin Bell and Elizabeth Ledbetter.

On June 30, 1846, Dr. Frances J. Kron purchased the Benjamin Bell property, 500 acres, for a listed price of $280.30. On May 11, 1847, he sold 425 acres on the eastern declivity to Daniel C. Kirk for $250.00.
