On 13 Mar 1862, the company was assigned to General Lawrence Branch's brigade. It was part of General A.P. Hill's division at Mechanicsville on 26 June 1862. While at Richmond in July 1862, A.P. Hill's division was assigned to Jackson's command in reorganization. Following the Chancellorsville campaign the 28th Regiment was part of Lane's brigade of William D. Pender's division of A.P. Hill's 3rd Corps. On 3 July 1863 Pender's division reinforced Pettigrew's division's left up Cemetery Ridge until they were enfiladed on their own left by infantry.
