Notes for Abraham Shaver
Mamie Frick Page wrote:

June 2, 1983 We found the old Reed Cemetery had been visited by vandals who shamefully desecrated the grave markers. Many were broken and lay in pieces on the ground. Others were broken/and/or missing in part or altogether.

The marker for Abraham Shaver had been removed from the base and only a bottom section lying on the ground among the weeds and vines. We were able to identify it by the death date and age. The remaining piece read:

Died March 20, 1874
Age 84 yrs. 3 mo. & 5 days

Lavon Page, great-great-great-grandson of Abraham (on both his father's and mother's side) took the piece of stone with him for fear it, also, would disappear.

The marker for Christina Foutz, Abraham's 2nd wife, was altogether missing with only the base still in the ground.

Was Abraham the second child of John and Mary? He was John's second child because in his will [dated 16 Nov 1843] John bequeathed to his eldest son, Jacob, 200 acres of land. Abraham is listed second and received 225 acres. John and Mary were married 28 Nov 1788, a fact recorded by Pastor Storch of Organ Church. Mary was 18 years old at the time (born 19 Jan 1770). Abraham was born 15 Dec 1789. It would seem he was their first child. It is most unlikely that Mary had a child at age 17 and was married 20 months later to someone who then became known as the child's father. A more probable conjecture is that Jacob was John’s child of an earlier marriage. John was 15 years older than Mary.
