James Judson 'Jim' Miller
FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - James Judson "Jim" Miller, 84, of Fredericksburg, Va., passed away on Saturday, Aug. 31, 2013. He was born Dec. 1, 1928 in Salisbury.
Jim served in the United States Navy during the Korean War. After serving in the Navy, he started his career as an electrical engineer. In 1963, Jim helped form Vega Precision Labs in Vienna, Va. He retired as Vice-President of Engineering and Operations in 1995 from Herley Industries in Lancaster, Pa. Jim was instrumental in the original design and development of the family of transponders still being produced today. He enjoyed woodworking, western, movies and time spent with his grandchildren. Jim was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents, E.E. and Agatha Eller Miller.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy of Fredericksburg, Va.; his two daughters, Jeri Prosser (Jim) of Chesapeake, Va. and Tracie Berry (Chuck) of Ashburn, Va.; his grandchildren, Matthew Justus (Katie), Robyn Latta (Mitchell), Charlie Berry and Corey Berry; one great-grandchild, Parker Lynn Latta; his brother, Ernest Miller (Jane) of Cary; and his sister, Zeta Smith, of Salisbury.
Service: A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2013 at Johnson Funeral Home, Locust Grove, Va. Interment will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.
Memorials: In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made the Wounded Warrior Project, Topeka, KS.
