Edith Whitley

Wednesday, May 29, 2013 — Ruby Edith Huneycutt Whitley, age 84, of Oakboro, passed away on Sunday, May 26, 2013 at The Trinity Place.   

The family will receive friends at Red Cross Baptist Church on Saturday, June 1, 2013 from 2-4 p.m. The funeral service, officiated by Rev. Garry Baker, will follow at 4 p.m. in the church sanctuary. Burial will be held at the church cemetery.

Mrs. Whitley was born on February 21, 1929, to the late Paul E. Huneycutt and the late Hattie Huneycutt. She is also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, James Glenn Whitley.

She is survived by three sons, Chris Whitley and wife Barbara of Albemarle, Les Whitley of Oakboro and Eric Whitley and friend Elizabeth Brislin of Mt. Holly; nine grandchildren, Abby Lovins and husband Shawn of Davidson, Trent Whitley and wife Kelli of Kings Mountain, Josh Whitley of Oakboro, Matt Whitley of Mt. Holly, Alex Whitley of Oakboro, Bethany Whitley of Mt. Holly, Phillp Birmingham of Midland, Jennifer Richter and husband Kevin of Atlanta, Ga., and Catherine Hinson of Concord; and four great-grandchildren, Elizabeth and James Richter and Payton and Ashton Whitley; a sister, Jeanette Morton and husband Vernon of Albemarle; and a brother, Malcolm Huneycutt and wife Patty of Cary.

Edith loved traveling and riding motorcycles with her late husband. She enjoyed journaling, doing crossword puzzles and reading. Mrs. Whitley also loved flowers, gardening, crocheting and sewing. She was a devoted member of Red Cross Baptist Church and enjoyed studying the Bible. Edith was a loving mother and grandmother, who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Red Cross Baptist Church, or Trinity Place.
