Ethel Wagoner Stancil

KANNAPOLIS - Ethel Wagoner Stancil, 83, of 107 N. East Ave., died Wednesday, December 12, 2007, at the Laurels of Salisbury after a period of declining health.

Born July 1, 1924, in Cabarrus County, Mrs. Stancil was a daughter of the late David Ed Wagoner and Eva Maie Frick Wagoner. In earlier years, she graduated from Richfield High School and went to work for Southern Bell. She later worked for Concord Telephone Company for 35 years until her retirement.

Mrs. Stancil was a member of North Kannapolis Baptist Church in Kannapolis, where for many years she taught Sunday School. She was also active in the Adult Choir most of her life and the Charming Years Senior Citizens Group.

Her special interests in life were reading and gardening.

Mrs. Stancil was preceded in death by a son-in-law, Joseph Purvis, and a daughter-in-law, Patricia Stancil, both this year.

Survivors include her husband of 60 years, M.V. "Bud" Stancil; daughters Janice Forster and Pam Purvis, both of Kannapolis; son Steve Stancil and fiancee Judy of Landis; grandchildren Craig Stancil and wife Loretta, Jesse McGill and wife Aisha, Matt Purvis and wife Amanda, Janna Purvis and Sara Purvis; 10 great-grandchildren; brothers Earl Wagoner and Norman Wagoner and wife Barbara of Salisbury; and sisters Pauline Lauchman of Salisbury, Brenda W. Taylor of Rockwell and Rachel Shoaf and husband Gerald of Salisbury.

Service: 11 a.m. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel in Kannapolis. Entombment will be at Carolina Memorial Park Plaza Mausoleum in Kannapolis.

Visitation: 9:30-11 a.m. Saturday at Whitley's Funeral Home Annex Chapel. At other times, the family will be at the home at 107 N. East Ave.

Memorials: North Kannapolis Baptist Church; or DaVita Dialysis Patient Fund, Kannapolis.
