Joe Francis Fisher

RICHFIELD - Joe Francis Fisher, 88, of 45108 Gold Branch Road, passed away Sept. 19, 2009, at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle. He resided at Spring Arbor at the time of his death.

Born March 19, 1921, in Stanly County, Mr. Fisher was a lifelong member of Mount Zion Lutheran Church in Richfield, where he served on the church council and various other committees. He was a World War II veteran of the U.S. Navy and was a crew member of P.T. Boat 129, which served in the South Pacific Theater.

A charter member of Richfield Misenheimer Fire Department, he was also a member of Talbert-Wagoner VFW Post. Joe earned his Eagle Scout award and later served as Scout Master. He was a partner in Richfield Milling Company and a farmer.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Effie Mae Wilhelm Fisher and Walter John "W.J." Fisher; and his wife, Ruby Faye Rowland Fisher.

Mr. Fisher is survived by daughters Joyce Fisher Ross and husband Michael and Bonnie Fisher Smith and husband Milas, both of Richfield, Carol Fisher Carter and husband Joe of Mount Pleasant; son John Lynn Fisher and wife Beverly of Bald Head Island.

Visitation: A visitation was held Monday, Sept. 21, Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle. At other times, the family is at the home.

Service: The funeral is Tuesday, Sept. 22 at 4 p.m. at Mount Zion Lutheran Church with the Rev. Graham Nahouse officiating. Burial will follow at Richfield Cemetery. Military honors will be conducted by Stanly County DAV Chapter 12.

The family would like to express their gratitude and thanks to the residents and staff of Spring Arbor.
