Tuesday, May 31, 2011 — John Kingsley Stoots, 82, of 32108 Austin Road, New London, died at 6:25 p.m. Sunday, May 29, 2011 at his home.

The family will receive friends from 12-1:15 p.m. Wednesday at Stanly Funeral Home.

His funeral will be at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday in Stanly Funeral Home Chapel in Albemarle. The Rev. Harold McDonald will officiate. A private inurnment will be at a later date.

Born April 11, 1929 in Helen, Ga., and reared in Damascus, Va., he was the son of the late John and Eula Price Stoots.

He was educated at Mars Hill College and UNC Chapel Hill and was director of pharmacy at Stanly Memorial Hospital and Stanly Regional Medical Center, with 47 years of service.

He was a member of Kendalls Baptist Church of New London and was a veteran of the U.S. Army in the Korean Conflict.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Farmer Stoots, in 1964, and his second wife, Mary Morton Stoots, in 2003. He was also preceded in death by four siblings.

He is survived by two daughters, Jane Burris Clayton and husband, Douglas of Albemarle and Brenda Burris Huneycutt and husband, Jody, of Albemarle; two grandchildren, Lisa Clayton of Albemarle and Shawn Huneycutt of Belmont; four great-grandchildren; and a great-great-grandchild.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Stanly County, or Stanly Regional Medical Center Foundation.
