James Richard Beattie

James Richard Beattie, 66, of Salisbury, passed away Friday, May 29, 2015, surrounded by his loving family. Born in Salisbury on March 9, 1949, he was the son of the late Jim and Betty Eagle Beattie.

Mr. Beattie was educated in Rowan County Schools. He graduated from Boyden High School and received a business degree from Rowan Cabarrus Community College. A wounded Vietnam veteran, he served in the U.S. Army from 1969-1972. The majority of his professional life was spent as manager and then owner of Beattie's Open Kitchen. A member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Mr. Beattie was an avid tennis player and enjoyed fishing, mystery novels and Late Night with David Letterman.

He was preceded in death by his first wife of 26 years, Gloria Mitchell Beattie.

Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 22 years, Virginia Dare Beattie; sons Bryan Beattie of Salisbury, Jonathan Beattie of Salisbury; daughters Kris Cornelison (Brent) of Elkin, Britt Adams Caraway of Salisbury; brother Terry L. Beattie (Karen) of Dallas, Texas; grandchildren Kaley Cornelison, Michael Harwood, Tyler Beattie, John Stephenson, Cameron Arrowood.

Graveside Service: 2 p.m. Thursday, June 4 at Salisbury National Cemetery with the Rev. Dr. Steve Sales officiating. Military rites will be performed by the Lyerly Volunteer Honor Guard and the Patriot Riders.

Memorials: In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Rowan County, or Meals on Wheels of Rowan County.
