James Franklin “Jim” Beattie

Mr. James Franklin (Jim) Beattie, age 84, of Salisbury passed away Saturday, April 25, 2009 at his residence.

He was born September 28, 1924 in Hickory, NC the son of the late Steve Edward Beattie and the late Josie Armstrong Beattie. Mr. Beattie was a veteran of the US Navy and was founder and owner of Beattie's Open Kitchen for 47 years with his wife. They were members of Haven Lutheran Church. Mr. Beattie was a Pioneer in Catering Business" and delivered meals to shut-ins.

Proceeding him in death was his wife Betty Eagle Beattie on January 23, 1998; sisters Betty Heffelfinger, Margaret Goodman and Tommy Beattie.

Survivors include his sons James Richard (Rick) Beattie and wife Dare of Salisbury and Terry Lee Beattie and wife Karen of Dallas, Texas; brothers Joe Beattie of Granite Quarry, Spurgeon Beattie of Mississippi, Bill Beattie of Florida and Ray Beattie of Salisbury; sisters Rachel Poole of Faith and Ann Eagle of Salisbury; grandchildren Kris Beattie Cornelison (Brent), Bryan Beattie, Jonathan Beattie, Laura Stroud (James), Reagan Putty and Britt Arrowood.

Visitation: 10-11:00 AM Tuesday at Lyerly Funeral Home.

Services: 11:00 AM Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at James C. Lyerly Chapel conducted by Rev. Ed Harper with burial to follow at Rowan Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers: memorials to be made to Haven Lutheran Church.
