Gene Edwin Honeycutt

Gene Edwin Honeycutt, 82 years of age, of Locust, NC passed away Thursday, February 23, 2017 at Spring Arbor of Albemarle.

Gene was born July 31, 1934 in Locust, NC to the late Everette "Rev. EJ" Jackson Honeycutt and the late Eva Jane Smith Honeycutt. He was also preceded in death by his sister Bobbie Sue McSwain.

Survivors include his wife of 57 years, Patsy Lambert Honeycutt of the home; Denise Honeycutt and husband Pat Watkins; Jeanne Honecutt Eudy and husband Jerry; granddaughter Jenna Eudy Gilfillan and husband Damion; grandson Jeremy Eudy and wife Katie Blalock Eudy; great grandchildren Allie Perry and Jake Perry; step great grandchildren Cameron Gilfillan and Caylee Gilfillan; sister Brenda Horton and husband Aubrey; as well as several nieces and nephews.

Gene proudly served his country in the United States Army. He was a school teacher for eighteen years, and also worked for Nationwide Insurance in Locust for more than 30 years. He was a life-long Sunday school teacher. Gene loved life, and lived it to the fullest. He enjoyed sports and making people laugh. He dearly loved his family, and especially adored his wife Patsy for nearly sixty years.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland. The memorial service will be on Sunday, February 26th at 3:00 pm at Bethel Baptist Church, 617 Bethel Church Rd., Locust, NC 28097, officiated by Rev. Pat Watkins and Rev. Denise Honeycutt. Interment will follow at the church cemetery with military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Community Home Care & Hospice, Troy, NC.
