Eli Edward Galloway

Eli Edward Galloway, 76, of Albemarle, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 12, 2024, with family by his side at Novant Health Rowan Medical Center in Salisbury.

Eli was born on April 3, 1947, in Albemarle to the late Jesse Edward Galloway and the late Louise Shaver Galloway Mundy.  He was also preceded in death by sisters, JoyceAnn Galloway and Judy G. Flowe.

Eli was a veteran of the US Marine Corps.  As a Sergeant, he proudly served two tours in Vietnam as a combat engineer.  In 2005, Eli retired from the Albemarle US Postal Service.  He was a lifetime member of the Marine Corps League, where he served as Chaplain.  He also served as assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 234 of which his sons were each a part.  Eli was an enthusiastic beekeeper, gardener, and card player.  He enjoyed cornhole, horseshoes and darts.  He loved trains, history and westerns.  Eli had a dry sense of humor, making jokes at the expense of himself, others and mosf of all his brother-in-law, Gary.  He looked forward to the yearly fishing trip with his brothers, their families, and friends.  He will be remembered for his genuine smile, laughter, and generosity.  Most of all, Eli was a loving husband, dad, and brother.      

Survivors include beloved wife of 45 years, Vicki Morgan Galloway of Albemarle; his 3 favorite sons, Timothy Galloway of Mount Juliet, TN, Matthew Galloway of Albemarle, and Andrew Galloway of Alamogordo, NM; siblings, Linda G. Davis, Wanda Galloway-Oatman (Gary), Debbie G. Boger, Donnie Galloway, Joe Galloway (Johna), Janet G. Lambert, Jeff McCloud, and Mike Galloway (Shelly); many nieces and nephews and their families; and cats, Pumpkin, Miss Vicki, Loretta, Lonnie and Fluffy.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 pm - 8:00 pm, Monday, January 15, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.  The funeral service will be at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, January 16, 2024, at Hartsell Funeral Home's Lefler Memorial Chapel, officiated by Rev. David Blalock.  Burial with military honors will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory, Albemarle.

In lieu of flowers, please consider donating blood at Atrium Health Stanly on Wednesday, January 17, 2024, from 9:00 am - 3:00 pm, or at American Red Cross in Albemarle on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, from 1:30 pm - 6:00 pm. In honor of Eli, you may also donate cat food to your local animal shelter or animal rescue.
