William Clay “Bill” Scoggins

William “Bill” Clay Scoggins, 66, of Franklin, passed away Tuesday, May 15, 2018.

Born October 2, 1951 in Washington, DC, he was the son of Nina Jo Kirk Scoggins of Lexington, NC and the late William George Scoggins. He graduated from Surratesville High School, Clinton, MD in 1969.

Bill worked for Sea Ray Yachts in Melborne, FL for many years, as well as Mustang Caterpillar in Houston, TX before retiring and moving to Franklin, NC. 

He attended Pole Creek Baptist Church, Candler, NC.

Bill was very proud of his Scotch/Irish ancestry and was a participating member of his Scottish Clan, Clan Maxwell and enjoyed wood working as a hobby. He never asked for anything for himself, but rather did for his family and loved all of them dearly.

He was preceded in death by his grandparents, ABC Kirk, Sr. and Virley Lee Maxwell Kirk of Salisbury, NC, Henry Allen Scoggins, Sr. of Landover, MD and Lois Juneamann Isham of LaPlatta, MD.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his wife Vera Jones Scoggins of Franklin, NC; three children, William F. Scoggins (Kristina) of Dallas, TX, David K. Scoggins (Sook I) of Sea Side, CA and Adam C. Scoggins (Stephanie) of Melbourne, FL; two daughters and one son by marriage; sister, Jean Collins of Greensboro, NC; two brothers, Karl Scoggins (Althea) of Shallotte, NC and Mark Scoggins (Carol) of Clemmons, NC; ten grandchildren; six great grandchildren and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held Monday, May 21, 2018 from 11am-12pm at Summersett Funeral Home. Graveside service will follow at 12PM in Chestnut Hill Cemetery. 

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.
