William George "Bill" Scoggins

Mr. William George "Bill" Scoggins of Lexington died Sunday, November 21, 2004 at Lexington Memorial Hospital after being in declining health for 5 years.

He was born August 13, 1928 in Washington, DC son of Lois Scoggins Isham of Waldorf MD and the late Henry Allen Scoggins Sr. he was educated in Washington, DC schools and was a veteran of the US Marine Corps in the Pacific Theatre during WWII. He was employed for the Chesapeake and Potomac Telephone Co. and Southern Bell Telephone Co. for 41 years and was Network Supervisor when he retired in 1983 and did consulting work following retirement. Mr. Scoggins was a member of the First Baptist Church of Clinton, MD, member of the Jim Leonard American Legion Post #8, AMVETS Post #13 and the VFW Post #3074 in Lexington. He was also a life member of the Telephone Pioneers of America.

Survivors include wife Nina Kirk Scoggins; sons William C. Scoggins of Oklahoma City, OK, Karl Dean Scoggins and his wife Althea of Lexington, Mark Edward Scoggins and his wife Carol of Lexington; daughter Evelyn Jean Collins of Greensboro; brothers Henry A. Scoggins Jr. of LA Plata, MD and Herbert S. Isham of La Plata, MD. Also surviving are many aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews, 7 grandchildren, 4 great-grandchildren, 4 step-grandchildren and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

Services will be held Wednesday 11 a.m. at Summersett Memorial Chapel with the Rev. Henry A. Scoggins Jr. and Rev. Walter Kirk Jr. officiating. Burial will be at Chestnut Hill Cemetery with Military Graveside Rites conducted by Lexington VFW Post #3074 Honor guard. Visitation will be held Tuesday 7-8:30 p.m. at Summersett Funeral Home and at other times the family will be at the residence.

Memorials may be made to a Veterans Organization of the donors choice.
