Billy Lee “Bill” Barbee

Billy Lee “Bill” Barbee, 76 year of age, of Locust, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 31, 2012 at his home surrounded by his family.

Mr. Barbee was born January 2, 1936 in Mecklenburg County to the late Benjamin Lee and Elsie Mae Teeter Barbee. He was also preceded in death by his sister Betty Martin.

The family will receive friends Wednesday, August 1, 2012 at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland from 6 – 8 p.m.

At other times the family will meet at the home.

The funeral service will be Thursday, August 2, 2012 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, 17236 Frog Pond Road, Oakboro at 11 a.m. Dr. Wayne Bennett and Dr. David Morrow will officiate the service.

The burial will follow at Midland Baptist Church with military honors conducted by the Cabarrus County Honor Guard.

Bill is survived by his beloved wife of 24 years, Teresa Rush Barbee of the home; daughters, Renee Thompson and husband Timmy of Swansboro, Jennifer Morton and husband Doug of Mt. Pleasant; grandchildren, Zack Morton, Garrett Morton, Jason Thompson; brother, Bob Barbee of Charlotte; sister, Peggy Little of Locust; two nieces; five grand nieces and nephews; and many other extended family members.

Bill worked as a truck driver for Moss Trucking, and later retired from Collins and Aikman. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Bill served his country honorably in the U.S. Coast Guard. He fought a courageous battle with cancer. He handled everything with grace, never complaining. Bill truly loved his family and friends.

Memorials may be made to Pleasant Grove Baptist Church or the charity of one’s choice.
