Ruth Harrison Peeler

Ruth Harrison Peeler, 85, Salisbury, died Thursday (April 21, 2005) at the Lutheran Home at Trinity Oaks after a period of declining health.

Born Sept. 19, 1919, in Rowan County, she was a daughter of the late Jesse R. and Sara Kesler Harrison. A graduate of Boyden High School, Mrs. Peeler retired from Rowan Public Library after 30 years of service.

Mrs. Peeler belonged to Union Lutheran Church, where she was a member of the adult bell choir, Molly Lyerly-Daisy Poplin WELCA Group, Catherine Mahaley Sunday School Class and Senior Citizens Goodtimers Club. She also was a member of the Book Ends Group at Rowan Public Library, Salisbury Senior Citizens and a life member of the Auxiliary of the Lutheran Theological Southern Seminary.

Her husband, William Grant Peeler, died Nov. 26, 1989. A daughter, Sara Rebecca Peeler, died Dec. 5, 1948.

Survivors include a son, William Grant Peeler Jr., Salisbury; a brother, Glenn R. Harrison, Salisbury; sisters Elizabeth Kesler, Salisbury, and Sarah H. Miller, Salisbury, Md.; two grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Services: 4 p.m. Monday, Union Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Gene Bost. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: Following the service, Fellowship Building, Union Lutheran Church. Lyerly Funeral Home is in charge.

Memorials: Union Lutheran Church, Cemetery Fund.
