Clara Maire Simmons Lyerly

Clara Maire Simmons Lyerly, 82, Salisbury, died Sunday (Sept. 1, 2002) at the Meadows of Rockwell Retirement Center after being declining in health for the past three months.

Born May 10, 1920, in Dare County, she is the daughter of the late Millie and Deward Simmons.

Mrs. Lyerly was educated in Rowan County schools and retired after 33 years of service at Cannon Mills No. 7 in Kannapolis. She was a homemaker.

She was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, the Golden Age Sunday School class and a lifetime honorary member of the Southern Theological Seminary Auxiliary.

Her husband, J. Edgar Lyerly, died May 18, 2001.

Survivors include son James Lyerly of Salisbury; daughters Helen Hoffner of Rockwell and Linda Lambirth of Salisbury; sister Myrtle Simmons Corl of Gold Hill; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services: 2 p.m. Wednesday, St. Peter's Lutheran Church, conducted by the Rev. Doug Hefner and the Rev. Lori Hefner, co-pastors. Burial, church cemetery.

Visitation: 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Lyerly Funeral Home. The rest of the time, the family will be at the home of Jim and Helen Hoffner on Old Beatty Ford Road.
